WABE broadcasts winner of inaugural honor named for Lois Reitzes

WABE has introduced the institution of a brand new award named in honor of retiring Metropolis Lights host and longtime Atlanta arts advocate Lois Reitzes.

The inaugural Lois Reitzes Chief of the Arts Award is being given to Chris Escobar, Atlanta theater proprietor and govt director of the Atlanta Movie Society.

The announcement of the award notes that it “celebrates a person whose work has strengthened the cultural material of the area, actively advocated for the humanities and demonstrated a long-lasting dedication to advancing Atlanta’s artistic group.”

Reitzes personally chosen the primary recipient, recognizing Escobar’s management in impartial movie and his funding in preserving and selling Atlanta’s arts scene.

“For his tireless dedication to group and perception within the energy of the humanities to unite folks, Chris Escobar is a perfect recipient of the inaugural Lois Reitzes Chief of the Arts Award,” Reitzes mentioned within the press launch.

Along with his work with the Atlanta Movie Society, Escobar was instrumental in revitalizing the Plaza Theatre and reopening the beloved Tara Theatre.

“Lois Reitzes has been the voice of Atlanta’s arts scene for so long as I can keep in mind, and to obtain an award that bears her identify is each humbling and deeply significant,” Escobar mentioned within the press launch. “The humanities are how our metropolis tells its story, and I’m honored to play a small half in serving to protect and elevate these voices.”
