Fred Baker III misplaced his UGA class ring whereas visiting Spain in 1970 and by no means thought he’d see it once more.
ATHENS, Ga. — A Georgia Bulldog alum has been reunited along with his class ring 54 years later!
In line with UGA’s Alumni Affiliation, Fred Baker III misplaced his UGA class ring whereas visiting Spain in 1970 and by no means thought he’d see it once more.
Then, in June 2024, Jack Swift, with UGA’s Workplace of Alumni Relations, acquired an sudden e-mail from a resident in a small city close to Valencia, Spain.
The resident, William Martinez, found the previous class ring in his grandparents’ residence and traced the ring’s origins again to UGA.
“At first, I used to be shocked that somebody would go to the trouble of emailing the college from one other nation, one other continent,” Swift advised UGA. “I assumed that was fascinating, and I wished to look into it and be taught extra. I made a decision to dedicate a while, commit and see what may come from it.”
The ring had Baker’s identify on it, together with the yr he graduated, so Swift was capable of finding Baker in a Sixties yearbook and name him.
“It was fairly emotional when Jack known as,” Baker advised UGA. “My daughter and I have been sitting collectively listening to the voicemail from Jack and have been left in whole disbelief.”
Now, 54 years later, Baker has been reunited with the ring!
